<!channel> (Knowing that I am channel-blasting nearly 1,500 people): An announcement has just been made by Efabless on the #announcements channel for a new design challenge called "Chipalooza". Unlike previous challenges, this one is specifically for analog and mixed-signal design, which is why I'm giving the heads-up in this channel: You're the people I want to participate. Unlike previous challenges, this one is being run by yours truly. I will be hosting a webinar tomorrow describing the details of the challenge. Friday is not an especially great day to give a webinar, but we were running out of time to give to designers to complete something and submit it before our next chipIgnite shuttle run. If you can't make the meeting, it will be recorded and posted. And of course if you miss the meeting and can't participate in the questions and answers, you know that I'm always hanging around in this slack workspace and will answer any questions willingly (read: I am easily nerd-sniped). So I hope that you can make tomorrow's webinar, but regardless, I hope to work with you soon on some great analog circuit designs!

Now I have no excuse to not chase some of my weird analog ideas. How analog we talking? Will I have an inductor or will it be like when I built PLLs in 0.13 for IBM. β€œFigure it out with the digital rules you analog weirdos! But, please help me, I don’t understand circuit design and my digital circuit is acting up!” πŸ˜†

@Mark Anderson: To be clear, the challenge involves making analog circuits that we (meaning Efabless) specify, and they are general-purpose analog blocks that people will want to have available to use on a future version of Caravel. However, awards for participation include free silicon, so you can go wild with your weird ideas. I like weird analog ideas, myself. I've never been all that interested in the common stuff.

Ooh that sounds fun too.
And yes. I will always take free space on a wafer. πŸ˜†

@Tim Edwards Thank you.
t
I have created a new slack channel here called #chipalooza which will have information about the challenge and where challenge participants can connect, and ask questions.
j
I know it's too early to ask but how long will the challenge last?
t
@Juan Andres: Shorter than anybody is going to want it to be. : ) Trying to hit the April 24 shuttle run deadline, but the blocks will have to be integrated into user projects in the last week, so from tomorrow's webinar, there's a total of 61 days. I will present the schedule during the webinar and I'll also post the schedule to slack on the #chipalooza channel.
j
I don't think I can attend the meeting but please share the recording as soon as you can, I will participate, I really like the analog design
t
Yes, definitely the meeting will be recorded and posted, and I'll link to that in the channel as well.
