As for my background, I've been doing a lot of power systems lately based on existing silicon (https://lifepo4wered.com/, https://wesp32.com/) but I am fascinated by the idea of creating my own custom silicon. I have "old experience" in chip design from my time at Melexis until 2001, but need to get up to date with this comparatively modern process. The last time I worked on chip design and layout was for a 0.8 um process with 2 metal layers. 😉
