A Japanese user had similar weird issues some time ago, and the problem was caused by an input method, he had to disable XMODIFIERS in his fcitx input method. I don't think this applies to you though.
Anyway, i guess the same strange behavior happens also when drawing a line ? try to put the mouse pointer somewhere on the xschem drawing area, press 'l' (Lowercase L) , then drag the mouse and line should start from the mouse position when you pressed the 'l' key. The uppercase 'W' starts a wire snapping to the closest pin or wire endpoint.
Please verify if there are no strange keyboard modifiers active. Xschem warns you (red box in the bottom status bar) if caps-lock or num-lock are active. However in some cases there are other modifiers that might interfere. If you find out let me know, may be i can filter these out in some way.
