It appears that following my instructions to initialize only the "latest" submodule for each standard cell library causes "make timing" to fail. I belive that it works if you initialize all submodules. However, that is a ton of unnecessary data and unnecessary processing of that data, and the intent is that (unless attempting to recreate conditions under which a past design was made) one would normally only want to work with the latest version of each standard cell library.
