Yeah, usually the antenna problem is from charge buildup when they "flatten out" the interconnect layers using Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP). This lets them stack more metal layers on top of a flatter surface. The bad part is charge can build up on the metal during the polishing (like static charge) so that when it eventually gets connected to a gate it is too high voltage and fries the gate. Limiting the surface area of the metal or inserting diodes prevents this build up.
