@User at a very high level, klayout approaches things in a more 'modern' way but magic is more supported by the core skywater-pdk team (ie. Tim). My gut feeling is you'll find klayout more productive if you have experience with industry standard tools. But magic also has advantages. I guess spend a couple hours with each and see what takes your fancy?
