You will see this discussed in any paper on switching converters. Basically, gate switching power is fswitch*CV^2. So the faster you switch, the more power you end up wasting to turn on an off your transistors. But, switching faster also helps you supply more current, so there usually exists an optimum switching frequency. Just Google this...
