the schematics have been updated for the next rev of the caravel test board ( https://github.com/efabless/caravel_board )

@Michael Welling have you seen this?
schematic is updated
Also, if anyone else wants to take a look, the more eyes the better
not the ftdi one
m
No, thanks for the ping
I will look at it today
m
thanks!
m
okay looking the design it is using MCP2221 which is out of stock just like the ftdi parts
not sure how this helps
@jeffdi have you considered breaking out the interface that the USB drives to a header so that we can create different variations of the interface driver with different chips
I think we could leverage a WCH part (which can be had) just need to make some firmware for it
we could also provide instructions for using other off the shelf boards to drive the interface
I have a feeling that if we pick a USB chip there is no guarantee that it will exist in the near future
m
@jeffdi pls respond

sorry guys - just catching up. I have a set of QFN and a set of MCP (dip pgk) parts. we also had some starting on updating layouts. let me try to pull her into this thread.
what is the WCH part you are referring to?
m
there is a CH32V305 version that is 64 pins to launch soon
the idea I had was cut the circuity in half putting the programmer on another board and connecting with headers
that way we can try various chips for programming without having to spin the carrier PCB repeatedly
ESP32-C3 could probably work as well
just need a MCU with USB, SPI and UART right?
just did a design with ESP32-C3-MINI module that I can leverage
gives us the three required interface and is cheaper than most other parts
wifi and ble is just a bonus
sorry about the lag; went a violent femmes concert 🙂

no problem. checking it out. i’m on EST time zone this week and next.
