The above pics show a QFN part however ... aren't they supposed to be WLCSP ?

Yes. The WLCSP takes a while to do, so we figured we could pull one wafer, send it to a local shop to get it diced and wirebonded, and have some test results before the WLCSP packed parts are shipped. It's more expensive and slower in the long run, but for just a handful of sample parts, it's quicker and cheaper.
