Spice gets sad if you try to connect two different nets together, so I had to add a lot of metal resistors as net ties

I dont think so, you need to add a metal resistor as a nettie

The top level ports are all named nets and you cant have  one net with two names in spice

so extraction fails to match and blah blah blah

adding metal resistors as net ties is pretty easy though

but they have the same name so why isn't it ok to connect them together?

but you cant tie it to the power rails without a metal resistor as a nettie
