Do you need help finding a PCB+Assembly production for breakout boards? If the costs for the breakout boards arent covered by Google, I could run a Crowdfunding campaign for the breakout boards and get the production organized.
m
Academics can get a run of boards for $30 or less without assembly. Assembly is free with steady hands. :)
https://bayareacircuits.com I've used them many times. Can even pick up locally (perhaps not during COVID)
Hm, I don't see that deal anymore but they have $75 1 day turn around

Perhaps OSHPark could be approached to make the boards for free. They are strong supporters of open source hardware. Drew Fustini is the contact there.

@Matthew Guthaus Have you hand-assembled BGAs/WLCSPs? I've never tried that. My experience with hand-soldered QFNs is that it is possible but not easy, but BGAs always seemed like too much.
m
yes
It's actually, not that difficult if you have the right tools. You need a volcano + hot air gun.
f
@Matthew Guthaus Main problem for BGA soldering yourself is inspection if all balls have reflowed properly.
m
Yep, that is true
j
volcano ~ hot plate?
m
I have this thing that heats the bottom of a board using hot air. I think the brand or model is volcano.
Maybe the guy that taught me just called it a volcano :)

@Adrian Freed hi, yes, OSH Park would be happy to help out
We are in Oregon and all boards are made in the USA
We often sponsor open source and educational projects.
I have slack overload so I may not see messages unless I'm @'d or mail drew@oshpark.com
