I suggest to use the klayout, which comes already installed in the docker openlane1 und openlane2 containers. You will need either docker or podman. How to install podman should be documented for your linux.

docker run -it <container> /bin/bash

container can be e.g. openlane:lastest bash should open klayout should work

Having clear installation steps would be incredibly helpful for setting up KLayout.
