Ok, Tim informed me that with level 3 either of BV, VB, VAR, or VRB is actually valid. So, I patched ngspice https://sourceforge.net/p/ngspice/ngspice/merge-requests/17/ I barged in there with my pull request, don't know what they'll do with it, but that's the fix.
