04/15/2024, 1:59 PMUsing metal 5 will prevent openlane from generating a power grid over the macro. However, you might not want openlane generating a power grid over your macro. So it's entirely up to you.

04/15/2024, 5:53 PMOkay, clarification from Andy: Make our lives easier for integration and don't use metal5 unless you have to for MiM caps. Which was the original reason for specifying that layout should only go up to metal 3.
