Patching Caravel to Caravan
# gf180mcu
a
If I write a patch to change caravel to caravan (i.e. remove some of the extra MPRJ I/O and put in the analog pads instead) and have my Makefile run that patch at the appropriate times (like setup) will I be able to use such. I.e. will a human intervene and say no caravel, no OpenMPW?
m
@Alex Orange there is no caravan for gfmpw-1. I don’t think any other formats besides the standard
user_project_wrapper
for
caravel
will be accepted because there are expected to be more than 40 designs submitted.
a
Right, I was suggesting taking caravel and making my own caravan. Then writing a patch that would get used in my Makefile to patch the caravel before the GDS gets made.
Is that consistent with how they generate the top level GDS or am I misunderstanding the build process?
m
The top level caravel is created on the platform using a production script and not the user’s Makefile.
a
Thanks, that answers the "can I solve this myself" question pretty thoroughly. Do you have any idea who I would contact to petition being allowed to submit a general caravan that anyone could use?
m
Probably @jeffdi for starters.
a
jeffdi would you mind chiming in on whether there's a chance here for a caravan to get accepted into the picture for GF180?
