Hello, I have few questions on magic 1. What are locali and viali used for ? 2. what metal layer are used to connect the diffusion layer in the attached picture?

@Abdullahi: "locali" stands for "local interconnect". It is a titanium nitride layer and very resistive compared to metal, so it's not good for routing long wires. From any diffusion or poly layer, you want to contact up to
locali
, and then immediately contact up again with the
mcon
layer to
metal1
(
mcon
is also called
viali
in magic, not to be confused with the
via
layer, which is between
m1
and
m2
). The device generator has options for automatically adding
mcon
contacts up to
metal1
from source, drain, or gate; using the device generator to draw the contacts is a lot easier than manually drawing them on the layout.
