I am weighing in here because I'm still on the search for the best file format for representing schematics and symbols in the Google/SkyWater repository. A bit different than evaluating what tool is better/easier/more feature rich. So far, I'm unaware of anything that comes close to what xcircuit has (except that xcircuit's file format is PostScript and is a pain to parse, although I have been considering a file format that consists simply of the Tcl commands that generate everything in the drawing).
