To be honest, something more akin to a traditional web forum might have considerable advantages over the Slack format. Forums are easily searchable (even by Google users who do not know that the forum exists) and inherently keep conversations organized and accessible, whereas Slack inherently does not have these properties, and its monetization model (wherein viewing archives is a premium feature) only compounds the issue. Conversations within this community, and indeed any open-source community, may still be of value a decade or more into the future, and traditional web forums have proven their ability to preserve conversations for that duration of time.
