For skywater projects I've been using xschem although I also use virtuoso and tanner during the day shift. For me the important thing is how hierarchy is handled. In the PCB world hierarchy and instantiations are an added feature but it is super important to have it as a fundamental concept for ICs. That's my main gripe with kicad - although I do like it for PCB work.
