If I go on to create new repository from caravel I get the following git page. There is a check box "Include all branches". Shall I tick it?

You probably only need 
main
, so don't tick it. You can always download later.

The next instruction is "git clone -b mpw-7a <your github repo URL> caravel_example" If I create the repo with main only, will I be able to clone the branch mpw-7a ?

Whoops. If you're creating a repo on github, you probably don't need to worry about disk space there, so include all branches is probably correct. Sorry.
