What is the difference between an ‘analog ground pin’ and a ‘digital ground pin’

The issue is that digital circuits create a huge amount of noise on the power and ground lines. If you have sensitive analog circuitry, you want to keep it separate from the digital power supplies as much as possible. Preferably to the extent of keeping them separate until they're off-chip where you can drop a microfarad cap on them.
