I am clueless and confused about many things

In this case, you can often ask for a tutorial on a specific tool or methodology
d
Ok
There are few people promoting paid tutorials of open source tools and technology
m
This has a lot of good stuff: https://www.zerotoasiccourse.com/
d
And this slack forum is flooded with the promotion of that particular paid tutorial. i wonder if everything is free then why should I pay for learning these things
m
Oh, he posted a lot of videos for free too
All of the interviews are here: https://www.zerotoasiccourse.com/interviews/
m
Hey @Danish Hashmy I have never promoted my course here. And if you really think paying for training has no value then you are free to not pay for it. 🙂
m
I actually haven't seen any ads posted by you. I've seen other courses though. I think you are doing it right by providing some resources for free, then if people see the quality and want more, they can pay.

Hi Matt Venn. I didn't know about you. I was talking about somebody else.
m
No probs. Just take Matt's advice and ask specific questions. Lots of people here happy to help.

Actually I am just a novice, trying to understand what open source, skywater pdk, open lane, RISC-V is all about.
Trying to get idea about all these open source developments like OSFPGA foundation. I am quite keen to learn VLSI but not sure from where to start. I have to start work on my dissertation-thesis too. Pursuing M.Tech/M.S in Electronics and Communication, Got to know about slack platform on some site which mentioned open source chip design. So just joined slack considering its open source and I don't have access to licensed version of EDA tools.

A good place to start would be the FOSSi videos that give overviews of different things: https://www.fossi-foundation.org/dial-up/
d
Oh!! Thanks Matthew Guthaus Sir. That's very generous and kind of you trying to provide me with resources and all
t
@Danish Hashmy I copy following from https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.en.html for you, to understand what is free and open-source.
“Free software” means software that respects users' freedom and community. Roughly, it means that the users have the freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. Thus, “free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech,” not as in “free beer”.
@Matt Venn You should not be so bothered as many people, who have a lesser idea of what FOSSi is, still expect that an open-source developer is one sitting in the middle of the city square, solving software problems for donations. Many have gone through this and all we have learnt is that we got to educate the masses. It may make a good topic for your upcoming podcast/interview.
