I just spent a while dealing with a LVS issue with MIM caps. Are MIM caps supposed to be polarity sensitive?

I wouldn't have thought so, that doesn't make sense to me. I've not had a MIM cap LVS issue.

They are not polarity sensitive, but there are parasitic coupling differences between top and bottom that mean you really shouldn't treat them as permutable. If you want to treat top and bottom as permutable for LVS, you can add that to the netgen setup file.

That makes sense!

So the intended behavior is that they are polarity sensitive?

If you want them to extract and simulate correctly, then you really should be tracking which side is the top and which side is the bottom. Which is not what I would call "polarity sensitive", but just to point out that it is not perfectly symmetric like a MOSFET.
