What is the difference between this contest and just submitting to the MPW?

It's a team/community building effort with weekly meet-ups and Mentors who will help the contestants. The selected teams are expected to work together, merge some of their designs, etc. (see contest description). The coolest thing about open-source is that you can finally collaborate openly in IC design. We want to provide an inclusive framework for people who may not necessarily be in a position to work on their own MPW submission.
