Hi, I tried several time to install openlane but unfortunately without success. I really appreciate if some body can help me. thanks
m
@bdjams Sure. First of all, what system are you trying to install on? Second, make sure you have all the prerequisites.
b
Hi Mitch, Thank you for your reply. I tried the installation of openlane on debian 10 as well as on ubuntu 20.04. I did all my best for having all the prerequisites installed as far as they were reported in the documentations I was able to access. You can find the nature of the problem in the attached file.
m
@bdjams make sure you're cloning from
<https://github.com/The-OpenROAD-Project/OpenLane>
and NOT
<https://github.com/efabless/openlane>
. The error you're seeing has been discussed here
b
Thank you very much. I'll try to do the cloning from the link you advised to me.
Hi, This is just to inform you that this time the installation of openlane on my laptop (Ubuntu 20.04) was completed without any interruption fail message, however, some error messages arises during the process of the installation. Two main error messages were recursively reported as follows: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- # Install OSU T18 hs digital standard cells. IndexError: list index out of range --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Running magic to create magic database files. Magic 8.3 revision 196 - Compiled on Fri 13 Aug 2021 031156 PM CEST. Error message output from magic: Can't write file named '(UNNAMED)' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I continued with the testing procedure "make test" and it was done successfully without errors. Please do find in the attachments the terminal logs of the last lines of the installations process as well as that of the test procedure. Many thanks for your help. Regards DB
m
@bdjams Congratulations! If you're not using the OSU libraries, you can ignore the IndexError. You can also ignore the error message from magic.

Hi, thank you. As I am learning how to use open source EDA for RTL2GDS in particular and for IC design in general I would like to explore the outcome of using the OSU libraries too which will allows doing comparisons against the Skywater libraries. May I expect to get more help from you on how to setup the OSU libraries, as well as for getting some guidelines (tips) on OpenLane usage in doing RTL2GDS designs? For sure I don't want to abuse your time, I just want more help from you only in the limits of your availability.
m
@bdjams I'm not an expert on OpenLane and don't know much about the OSU libraries. Someone on the channel usually helps out, though.

Thank you again. Regards.
