I'm curious as to which schematic capture tool(s) that OpenROAD users think work well with the rest of the toolset (if any). Some of the included apps have history with gschem and/or XCircuit.

I don't think it matters? OpenROAD is a digital flow. Any tool that supports LEF abstraction and Liberty timing characterization will work.

xschem
is the go-to schematic capture tool for the SkyWater open PDK. See #C017P3RAD42 for related discussions.

As long as the tool produces hierarchical verilog the rest of the flow will be happy. If it has a back annotation capability, for example to display timing on the schematic or if it is embeddable where its display can be put inside the openroad gui, that tool would have abig usability advantage in the future.
