I think cp or ln both works the same way.. also no change in the inv.spice file

The PDK is installed correctly because magic is seeing the correct tech file and xschem is seen the right libraries. It is reading the schematic and generating parameterized cells. After that, though, it seems to lose track of the parameterized cells, although they should be in memory for the whole process.
