🔊 Join our next Chip Chat Webinar for an open Q&A on chip design and the latest in VLSI! Last session covered Analog Design, AI, Upskilling, and more—and we’re excited to dig even deeper this time. Have a question you'd like us to cover? Just add it when you register, and we’ll build the conversation around what matters most to you. Registered for the event. I have mentioned a topic in the box "Topics of your interest". Describing here also. For analog designs we may not need the caravel infrastructure. Can efabless manufacture analog designs as shown in the picture.
Hi @Andrea Vedanayagam my question was not taken in the last chip-chat. Almost the same topics are discussed in two consecutive chip-chat. We have been on this slack channel since 2022. Most of us know the caravan, caravel, chipignite, chipignite mini, whether analog design can be done, pad rings with/out esd. Many of us have taped out multiple times. So we would be interested in the next new things that efabless is planning. In both the chip-chats there were many interesting questions asked by the participants. Marwan Abbas wrote that he would like to answer many of them. Unfortunately Anton took all the time and Marwan could not answer any of them. Can we expect any change in the next chip chats? As we have taped out a few times, we would like to know more about volume production. And IP marketplace.

Hi @Lab Lecture thanks for the feedback and for your patience as we are finding our feet with Chip Chat. I apologize that your questions were not answered. We will endeavor to get more streamlined with future sessions. As for your question earlier in this thread, we can certainly fabricate ICs without Caravel (which is the SoC) and this is the intent of OpenFrame. More information comparing the options we can fabricate is found here. I suspect, however, that your question is more nuanced with respect to deviations from our standard offering. Can you provide more specific information about what you're hoping to accomplish or explore? For example, are you looking to design and mass-produce a low-pin-count analog device?

I think the journey to make meaningful semiconductor devices by opensource tools was challenging. But we can say it is successful. People have created many designs. During the journey the support of caravan/caravel was necessary. Now people would look for manufacturing to make business. To make business we need to create components and list it on portals like Amazon, Mouser, Arrow etc. To make that happen people may not want to carry the caravel on silicon. For example, a single opamp can be sold like ic741 and lm368. Even a single ADC, DAC, can be sold. Simple 8-bit microprocessor like STM8, pic controller we want to make. These are the things we want to know.
Another direction is selling IPs. Soft IP as well as hard IPs. There was a thought about that. That is also interesting for us.

@Lab Lecture in tomorrow's Chip Chat, we will be tackling some questions that might be of interest to you, regarding going to production: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/efabless_chipdesign-efabless-webinar-activity-7273016657650827264-aK4V -- we might also touch on IPs, if there is time, but I'm pleased to say it's a pretty long list of questions!

Hi @Anton Maurovic (efabless support) thanks for taking these into the list. I was on vacation. So could not attend the webinar. Will check the recordings.
