Great slides. Maybe it would be possible to interface xschem directly with klayout through a klayout's plugin ? I saw something similar in gdsfactory.

@Harald Pretl xschem has simple drawing primitives so you can shape component symbols according to their layout placement. I have used it that way many times, expecially for IR drop / Power network analysis. I also sometimes use the tool to do things that have nothing to do with circuits. Sure there are MUCH better drawing tools for these tasks, but I don't know how to use them, while I know every function of xschem 🙂 If there are functions you are aware of in other schematic tools for adding layout information to circuits I am interested to make improvements in this area.
